GOP File Legal Challenge Opposing Redistricting Measure

Republicans in the state of California have initiated a federal lawsuit on Wednesday, challenging a high-stakes redistricting initiative that has the potential to flip as many as five congressional seats to the benefit of the Democratic party.

Voter-Approved Proposition Grants Authority to State Lawmakers

The measure, Proposition 50, was approved by voters Tuesday night, representing a decisive victory for Democrats. The plan grants on a temporary basis the authority to draw congressional districts to the California legislature, enabling it to approve district maps that are expected to assist the Democratic party pick up five congressional seats in the House of Representatives.

Countermeasure to Gerrymandering in Texas

The plan is a targeted countermeasure to gerrymandering in the state of Texas, where GOP lawmakers, following the US president's direction, have created several new districts favoring Republicans.
