Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 while batting being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Yet, at the end of his spell, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
