The macabre humor of Amy Sedaris might not be for those easily unsettled, but it has helped maintain the accomplished actor, writer, and comedian vibrant.

Most famous for her role as Jerri in “Strangers With Candy,” which just marked the 25th year of its final episode, Sedaris, sixty-four, is determined to keep her mind sharp.

While balancing a variety of roles, including roles in a series and new feature films, to working with a multivitamin campaign to support brain health in older individuals, Sedaris is no stranger to brain candy if it means bolstering optimal brain function.

“I often gripe a lot about living in a city, but I always think at least I am alert,” she remarked.

In addition to remembering her dialogue for her roles, Sedaris revealed that she also enjoys creating handmade items.

“I organize a meetup, and we craft a little crafting circle, particularly around this festive time. I cook food, and we gather, and we chit-chat and craft projects,” she said. “I like to engage with people. I listen well, and I enjoy making new acquaintances. And I think that type of interaction maintains youthfulness, so I rarely focus on aging that much.”

The brain health expert described community ties as “brain food” and a “biological necessity for brain health.”

“Scientific literature repeatedly demonstrate that loneliness and social isolation increase the chance of brain function loss and memory disorders. Our minds are wired for interaction and flourish because of it.”
