The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

At least 16 individuals were killed and over 40 sustained injuries when gunmen shot at a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the death toll is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were taken to the hospital.

Those who died are still awaiting publicly named, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Below are the victims who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She described the moments before the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He said he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
