Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
