Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Down 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for our team, Toronto, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
